Gifts from afar!

Day 227.

Such an Adult

Day 226.

For our anniversary, I got a certain someone and I a membership to a wine club! This is our first shipment. Yes, the winery is in a train yard.

Tuesday, October 13, 2009

To the Theat-ah

Day 225.

We went to see the musical Ragtime! It was a great production, and we both really liked the music.

Monday, October 12, 2009

Pajama time

Day 224.

And this is what happens when I literally take a picture on my way to bed.

Sunday, October 11, 2009

vierd!

Day 213.

Yep, when I can't think of anything better, I just make a weird face.

Saturday, October 10, 2009

The departure

Day 222.

My parents left town this morning, and I played substitute box office manager last night.

Friday, October 9, 2009

I'm going to hide in here

Day 221.

We went up the the World Forestry Center, which was a really terrible idea! The place was crawling with people! We found out that night that it was a day off for the public schools... NEVER GO TO THE ZOO ON A NO SCHOOL DAY.

Thursday, October 8, 2009

Orange Scarf Day 3

Day 220.

Despite saying they wanted to take it easy, my parents wanted to go to Mt. St. Helens on Thursday, before I went to work! That's what's left of it, six miles behind us. The visitors centers there are excellent.

Wednesday, October 7, 2009

Astoria

Day 219.

We took off on an adventure up through the homeland (St. Johns and Sauvie Island) to Astoria, Ft. Stevens State Park and Cannon Beach. We went to the end of Oregon where the Columbia meets the Pacific. It was pretty special and a beautiful day.

Tuesday, October 6, 2009

Parental Arrival

Day 218.

My parents arrived bearing late birthday presents from one sister. We started the trip off right with a trek to Multnomah Falls.

Monday, October 5, 2009

Day 217

I have no idea what happened to my picture from today, and I am tired of waiting for my camera to find it!

Sunday, October 4, 2009

Made it

Day 216.
The end of the first weekend of the season. Thank goodness.

Saturday, October 3, 2009

Oh my F

Day 215.
There are some new individuals in my life making it OH SO JOYOUS! Can you tell??

Friday, October 2, 2009

Thursday, October 1, 2009

Brief Reprieve

Day 213.
Five days till my parents get here - crazy!

Wednesday, September 30, 2009

OMSI

Day 212.

For his final day in town, I took our friend to OMSI. At the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry big kids can play for hours. Jealous moms asked us what it was like to be there without toddlers. It was fantastic!! This is the paulkim created by a double mirror.

Tuesday, September 29, 2009

Here Squidy Squidy Squidy

Day 211.

This delicious little fellow was promptly consumed at our favorite Tuesday Night hangout - East Burn. Tuesdays are $2 pints all day, naturally, we couldn't pass up the opportunity for cheap beer and great food - especially not on our fatty-free-for-all through Stumptown.

Monday, September 28, 2009

Rose Garden & Rose City Farewell

Day 210.

We took our friends to the International Rose Test Garden and to Por Que No before one of them left town. (We couldn't let her leave with an empty stomach!)

Sunday, September 27, 2009

Stereotypical Photos

Day 209.

A certain someone and I finally made it to Multnomah Falls after more than a year in Portland. Our visitors liked it too!

Saturday, September 26, 2009

Public Nuissances

Day 208.

Yes, I wore sunglasses pretty much the entire day, but we still managed to eat a lot, adventure in the Pearl District and see the worst play in a long time! This is only a small small part of our silliness at Cargo. It was the best day ever!

Friday, September 25, 2009

Golden Birthday

Day 207.

My Birthday was the shiz! We went in a hay-tunnel and went to Voodoo Donuts, and made salsa and grilled brats and went to fancy dinner and then had drinks at the big house. The weather was beautiful! We also learned a valuable lesson: cookie dough will not prevent hangovers, but it is amazing.

Thursday, September 24, 2009

Start your Engines

Day 206.

Our friends arrived at 10:30pm and it was time to start the culinary adventures in Portland. First stop was the Victory!

Wednesday, September 23, 2009

Insert Cookie Here

Day 205.

We are in full preparations for friends to join us at the big house in lots of eating, drinking and, as one of them said, potentially illegal amounts of fun. Can you die from anticipation?

I'm hoping for a at least a few cookies in there somewhere!

Tuesday, September 22, 2009

Tiny Wallets

Day 204.

My new friend at TinyMeat gave me some wallet schwag! He's got some really cool stuff.

Monday, September 21, 2009

All things green

Day 203.

Green things make me happy. The couch here is green. I love it.

Sunday, September 20, 2009

New Digs

Day 202.

Today a certain someone and I start a long term house sitting gig. The house is gorgeous, warm and full of light. Right now it seems like it will be very hard to leave.

Saturday, September 19, 2009

The Fattest Lip

Day 201.

The pouty face is for job rejection, a good friend leaving town for a while, and lots of car drama.

Friday, September 18, 2009

BIG 200

Day 200!

Today I had a job interview (no luck), but it was good practice... I guess.

Thursday, September 17, 2009

Purpley

Day 199.

A certain someone and I ventured onto Sauvie Island this morning. This tree? was at the Blue Heron Herbary. I have no idea what it was, but the color was STUNNING.

This evening I went out looking for a bargain on a top - and again was floored by some magentas and purples. The same colors showed up in my "artist's journal." I'm going to have to call it AJ for short.

New Endeavors

Day 198.

I'm starting an "artist's journal." I think that sounds really pretentious, but it's the fastest way to say a sketch book that I draw or paint in every day. I am having to relearn how to use watercolor (I haven't really used it since 4th grade), and it's been a lot of fun to just play with mixing paints and different brushes, etc.

I saw a picture of an artist's studio who had the same table we just bought! I guess this bodes well for our artistic pursuits.

Tuesday, September 15, 2009

New Leaves

Day 197.

These leaves have lasted us a year, but it's time for new ones.

Monday, September 14, 2009

Fall is here

Day 196.

It's basically fall and that means it's time to break out the cardigans. I think I've had this one since high school, and it's still going strong!

Sunday, September 13, 2009

Cuddle Up

Day 195.

After a crafty day, I had a cozy night at home.

Saturday, September 12, 2009

Big Wheels Keep on Turning

Day 194.

The wheels are still spinning.

Friday, September 11, 2009

Bright Night

Day 193.

Tonight I'm still feeling waves of revelation from the reading the other night.

Middlesexed

This story brings up really interesting questions about gender and sex. I feel for Semenya and wonder how we as a society address what is a very large population of intersexed individuals that we are finally talking about. I know I would not want the curiosities of my abdomen broadcasted internationally.

Thursday, September 10, 2009

Home Alone

Day 192.

A certain someone is out of town for the weekend (in CO)! I'm left to fend for myself.

It's really not as pathetic as all that, yet!

Wednesday, September 9, 2009

Connected in the Cards

Day 191.

A certain someone and each had a tarot reading tonight. While they were not about our relationships per say, an interesting thing happened. Out of more than 50 cards in the deck we each drew three of the same. Our friend doing the reading said this was very unusual and good.

:)

Nothing Rhymes with Orange

Day 190.

Apparently citrus can contribute to headaches. This is no good. I am monitoring my clemintine intake carefully.

Monday, September 7, 2009

Tuck me in

Day 189.

Take me home and put me in bed. The horsebrass outdid me!

Sunday, September 6, 2009

Oraganizing

Day 188.

Organizing a craft room requires many things, especially cute organizers.

Saturday, September 5, 2009

Birthday!

Day 187.

A certain someone's birthday to be exact. we ate ourselves stupid. That's my first ever cheesecake above (I think it's just so so, he really liked it.)

This is him at dinner enjoying the burger that was on the cover of Portland Monthly magazine recently. Let me just tell you what this is like:
Nearly a half pound of kobe beef a top a brioche bun covered in creamy goat cheese topped with crispy shoe string potatoes drizzled in truffle oil and sprinkled with a mixture of orange zest and chili powder.
You may now wipe the drool off your face. Yakuza is probably my favorite restaurant in Portland at the moment. Oh yeah, he had a happy birthday too!

Friday, September 4, 2009

New Shades

Day 186.
You can find awesome sunglasses like these at the local tar-jey & then you will match my little sister and I.

Definitely wore these around a long time before I realized that stupid sticker was still on there.

Thursday, September 3, 2009

lame

Day 185.

Literally as I was walking to bed. Sorry!

Wednesday, September 2, 2009

A Pincushion

Day 184.

This is my first terrarium - I have been wanting to make one for a long time. This little plant is called a pincushion. On the tag, it says it is native to New Zealand and Central America....

Umm, no. You get to pick one.

September is upon us!

Day 183.

I didn't recognize myself in the mirror this morning. That's a very strange phenomenon. On the other hand, it's SEPTEMBER!! The best month of the year (IMHO).

This September I am looking forward to:
  • Birthday hiking w/ a certain someone
  • A sweet house sitting gig
  • Finishing the spare oom
  • Getting very very crafty
  • A girly/alone time while a certain someone is out of town
  • An anniversary
  • BIRTHDAY VISITS FROM SOME OF MY FAVORITE PEOPLE!!!
Other things that I want to be a part of:
  • My fantastic nephew turns a sassy 4 years old (TODAY!)
  • FINGERS CROSSED for no family having to evacuate for hurricanes this year
  • Reading all these books I've been checking out from the library
  • Getting a yoga regimen going again
Not too much to ask right?

Monday, August 31, 2009

Basil Baby

Day 182.

I have been dying because we really don't have room to grow much in our apartment. I bought this little growing kit out of the bottom of a clearance bin at the craft store a few days ago with out much hope of it actually sprout anything, but look at it go!

There were a few really cool things about this kit:
  1. The soil came in a super-compressed disc that expands to 10x's its volume when you add water. I would buy another kit like this just to watch that.
  2. It came with the little pot - very apartment window-sill size appropriate.
  3. It cost me a whole $1.99.
I am obsessed with checking on this little guy.

Sunday, August 30, 2009

Hungry Eyes

Day 181.

Moments before the blizzard gets passed through the drive thru window at DQ. Can you feel the desperation?

A word of advice: When the pumpkin pie blizzards come back, get them.

Saturday, August 29, 2009

Purple Green Onions

Day 180.

Today at the Farmer's Market: stuff to make your breath awful and your soup good. I bought Walla Walla sweet onions and purple chives (or green onions or scallions - what is the difference anyway?). They were featured in a take on Italian wedding soup.

Friday, August 28, 2009

Hiding Spot

Day 179.

Sometimes, I think it would just be easier to hide back here. Being "grown up" is hard.
